Over the last several years, my artistic practice has been greatly impacted by women artist and feminist theorists. An artist who I truly admire, Zanele Muholi, mentions “claiming spaces and taking back power” with intent to challenge the sexist topic of male dominancy. Through my own work, I challenge patriarchal voices which have taken up the majority of space within our society and throughout our histories. By using the medium of photography, I help make space for the voices of women with a plurality of experiences. Throughout many of my creative projects, I explore the traditions and histories behind needlework handicrafts, shaped and maintained largely by women.
